Fashion was actually my first career. I began by studying Fashion Design and Apparel Manufacturing, where I developed a strong foundation in garment construction, pattern making, textiles, and production. Early in my career, I also worked as a professional makeup artist for luxury beauty brands, including MAC Cosmetics and several Estée Lauder Companies brands. Working in beauty taught me how fashion extends beyond clothing—it's about creating a complete visual story and helping people express confidence and identity.
Throughout my career, I continued freelancing in Los Angeles as a pattern maker and seamstress, working closely with celebrity stylists to create and alter garments for clients, photoshoots, and special projects. These experiences gave me a practical understanding of how garments move from concept to finished product while meeting real-world deadlines and client expectations.
Over time, my passion naturally evolved into education. I discovered that I enjoyed mentoring, teaching, and helping others develop their creative and technical skills just as much as I enjoyed designing myself. Today, I combine my industry experience with my background in education to help students build both the artistic and professional skills needed to succeed in today's fashion industry.
I've always loved helping others grow. Throughout my career I found myself mentoring colleagues, sharing techniques, and helping aspiring designers solve creative and technical challenges. Becoming a tutor allowed me to combine two passions: fashion and education.
What inspires me most is seeing students realize that fashion design isn't simply about making beautiful clothes. It's about storytelling, innovation, craftsmanship, problem-solving, and understanding the people you're designing for. Helping students gain confidence in their abilities and watching them develop their own design voice is incredibly rewarding.
A successful fashion designer needs much more than creativity. They need curiosity, discipline, resilience, and the willingness to continuously learn.
I encourage students to develop strong technical foundations in sketching, garment construction, pattern making, textiles, and fit, because those skills allow creativity to become reality. Equally important are communication, collaboration, time management, attention to detail, and the ability to receive feedback professionally.
Fashion is constantly evolving, so adaptability and lifelong learning are just as valuable as artistic talent.
Some of my favorite work has been collaborating with stylists in Los Angeles, where every project presented a unique creative challenge. Whether developing patterns, altering garments, or creating custom pieces, I enjoyed finding technical solutions that brought someone else's creative vision to life.
As an educator, however, my favorite projects are often my students' collections. Watching students transform an initial sketch into a professionally finished garment—and seeing their confidence grow throughout the process—is one of the most rewarding experiences of my career.
I believe every student has creative potential. My role is to provide the knowledge, structure, and encouragement that allows that creativity to flourish.
I focus on balancing artistic exploration with technical excellence. Students should feel comfortable experimenting while also understanding the professional standards of the fashion industry. I want them to graduate not only as creative designers but also as capable professionals who understand the complete design process.
I guide students through every stage of the design process, including research, concept development, fashion illustration, textiles, color theory, pattern making, garment construction, fitting, and presentation.
I also emphasize critical thinking and problem-solving because every designer encounters challenges during production. Beyond technical skills, I introduce students to branding, sustainability, manufacturing, fashion technology, and professional communication so they're prepared for the realities of the industry.
My design aesthetic is sophisticated, modern, and functional. I appreciate clean silhouettes, thoughtful construction, and timeless pieces that remain relevant beyond seasonal trends.
I draw inspiration from architecture, travel, culture, art, and everyday life. I'm especially inspired by how clothing can communicate identity and confidence while balancing creativity with practicality.
I've always admired fashion houses that balance exceptional craftsmanship with timeless design and innovation. Some of my favorite luxury brands include Louis Vuitton, Saint Laurent (YSL), Gucci, Alexander McQueen, Dior, Ralph Lauren, Loewe, and Tory Burch. Each represents a different perspective on luxury and creativity, which I find incredibly inspiring.
I admire Louis Vuitton for its ability to evolve while honoring its heritage and craftsmanship. Saint Laurent's sleek sophistication and confidence have always resonated with me, while Gucci's bold creativity demonstrates how fashion can continually reinvent itself. Alexander McQueen remains one of my greatest inspirations because of his extraordinary storytelling, technical mastery, and fearless artistic vision. Dior represents timeless elegance and impeccable tailoring, Ralph Lauren embodies classic American style with enduring appeal, Loewe continually pushes the boundaries of craftsmanship through modern artistry, and Tory Burch beautifully blends effortless sophistication with everyday wearability.
Beyond the well-known fashion houses, I also have tremendous respect for the talented pattern makers, sample makers, seamstresses, garment technicians, and production teams working behind the scenes. Having worked as both a pattern maker and seamstress myself, I understand firsthand that great fashion is built on precision, technical expertise, and collaboration. Those professionals are often the unsung heroes who transform a designer's vision into reality, and they continue to inspire me every day.
Watching students become confident in themselves. Many students begin believing they're "not creative enough." Seeing them gain technical skills, trust their instincts, and eventually present work they're proud of is incredibly fulfilling. Knowing I've played a small role in helping someone pursue their passion is what makes teaching so meaningful.
Master the fundamentals before chasing trends. Learn pattern making, garment construction, textiles, and fit because those technical skills will support your creativity throughout your career.
Be curious, stay humble, and never stop practicing. Build relationships, seek feedback, and remember that every successful designer started as a beginner. Fashion is a lifelong journey of learning, refining your craft, and discovering your own creative voice.
